Welcome to the homepage of the Central Auckland based aikijujitsu & kicking classes' website! Our interest is in the mainstream Daito-ryu aikijujitsu and a style of savate kickboxing for their effectiveness in the street, wealth of skills training and many psycho-physiological benefits including neural reorganisation, improved movement control and economy and visual and kinaesthetic perception. Aikijujitsu is an unaggressive way to defend yourself against aggravated assaults and street savate kicking is an art of efficient and powerful street self-defence. It is in our interest to invite Auckland locals of good character to our free or very low cost training sessions.
Our sessions are held every Monday from 6 pm to 7 pm in Auckland City and some Saturdays. Any healthy persons of good character who can commit themselves to weekly training are welcome. Tuition fees are free unless we hire a hall because we practise for the benefits stated above and not for money or for public display.
Daito-ryu aikijujitsu is a 900 year old, highly developed system of jujitsu with plethora of oral and inner teachings whose techniques are distinguished by utilisation of the skill/ability termed aiki. The term has been publicised by aikido which is one derivative art of Daito-ryu. Daito-ryu comprises more than 2,600 techniques in its basic curriculum alone, many of which are interconnected and can be executed continuously according to ever-changing combative situations. The art is primarily a self-defensive, nevertheless destructive grappling tradition, characterised by locks, throws, grips, bursts, holds or combinations of any of these, all of which can be refined by aiki. Daito-ryu's art of aiki is variable in mechanics and it advances to a mystifying level where the effects of techniques are unfathomable. Daito-ryu and aikido are unalike in terms of the mechanics of movement at least and newcomers to Daito-ryu should break away from their assumption, if they have, that these arts are two of a sort. Our main focus is on its first and second syllabuses which are thought to form the core of the art. We respect the tradition of Daito-ryu aikijujtisu and its inner teachings and therefore do not adopt any grading system. For more information on Daito-ryu, please click here. This website contains Video Links to excellent Daito-ryu public demonstrations also.
The other defensive art that we train in is French kickboxing called savate, especially its street-defence applications. Its techniques are mainly kicks and we sometimes practise them in conjunction with Daito-ryu to deal with a greater variety of scenes. It is a powerful striking tradition which sits at the other end of the wide spectrum of martial arts.
Our aikijujitsu training focuses strongly on human anatomy and biomechanics because the founder of the art, Saburo Shinra, studied human anatomy from cadavers to perfect the art and even this day Daito-ryu techniques fully deploy the human anatomy and biomechanics. Nevertheless, it involves studying transphysical aspects of the art and human abilities also. Each session is designed to be safe for beginners and alike due to well-revised syllabuses which take account of gradual physical adaptation. Should you wish to join our training, please point your web browser to Contact Us. Genuine expressions of interest will be answered.
There have been distressing news of defenders being charged for over defence against attacks that would have led to grievous bodily harms. Unaggressive aikijujitsu defence is most probably one of a few ways you could justifiably defend yourself.
